Rainbow baskets of a leafy trail. 🌈 πŸƒ πŸŒ³

During the early hours of a fine summer morning, β˜€οΈ

I found myself walking down a patchy little trail.

Surrounded by lush greens, wildflowers, birds and butterflies, Oh! there flies a lil’ Himalayan blue-tail. 🐦

Almost halfway down the scenic pathway,

On the opposite, lies a sea of blue-green ridges,β›°

Enchanting enough to drive all the blues away.

And finally here I am in the abundance of emerald and forest green,

That permeates an aroma as pleasant as the summer’s bouquet.

No, I’m not speaking of some whimsical fairy land, πŸ§šπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ In fact I’m talking about this wonderful tiny tea estate called the β€˜Bermiok Tea Farms’. A private boutique tea estate nestled in the south-east slopes of Bermiok village in Sikkim. It is a fully organic tea estate with 100% young clonal tea bushes which is bio dynamically cultivated. The tea estate lies at 2,000- 3,000 feet, relatively low for a Himalayan tea region which lends the tea its unique and utterly delicious flavor and characteristics.

Early this summer, I had the opportunity to visit the place where this beautiful tea is grown. And the best part, I was accompanied by my Aunt (who first introduced me to this tea). Luckily, she too was on a short break from her active life in the capital city. We arrived at Bermiok pretty early on a bright sunny morning. 🌿

A small patchy πŸ‚ path which gets scenic as you enter, warmly welcomed by the the sound of crickets, birds and some lovely wildflowers waving at you. 🌼
It’s truly nature in balance!

After a good 10-15 mins walk downhill, here we are finally in the lil’ land of enchantment-
The Bermiok Tea Farms. πŸͺ„

Bermiok teas veiled under tall shade tress. 🌳
The tea bushes are also intercropped with various plants and flowers.

A trough of freshly plucked leaves being withered , patiently calling out to be crafted into something beautiful. πŸƒ

A fresh batch of second flush, laid out for us to be sipped, slurped and bring our minds to life. πŸ«–

Besides all the wonderful teas that they produce, I have to say that the people in the estate were so warm and welcoming. They patiently showed us around the factory and explained to us about their teas in great detail. The in-charge of the estate, Mr N.T Bhutia is of calm and humble demeanor and through our long conversation, I learnt that Bermiok tea is all about sustainable farming and they care deeply about producing high quality teas in small batches, rather than focusing on higher yields and figures only. It’s social and environmental integrity speaks for itself in its pure yet fantastic flavor. 🍡 πŸƒ

And as my holiday came to an end, I flew back not only with a suitcase full of Bermiok Wulongs, blacks and greens but also with some freshly stamped postcards of precious memories which I shall always revere and cherish.

As I write this, I have a cup of Denzong Green beside me to give me company.πŸ₯°

This stunning bright liquor is bursting with umami, floral and vegetal notes, so pleasantly sweet and it leaves a long lasting velvety softness on the tongue.

Lastly, I would like to thank Mr Nikhil Pradhan and Mrs Dolkar Densapa – the owners of Bermiok Tea farms and also their entire tea family for bringing TRUE tea into our lives. For an avid tea drinker like me, your beautiful leaf not only comforts me but it also syncs in perfectly with the mindset of living consciously with gratitude.. each day!

May your precious leaf continue to bring peace, joy and warmth into peoples hearts all across the world. 🀍

With much appreciation and love. πŸ™
